With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, I thought I could provide some well-thought gifts for your boy toy. Then it occurred to me, why am I putting together a man’s wish list when I could go straight to the source: my boyfriend. He helped me come up with the list below, and his perspective was amazing. Without further ado, here are the Top 10 Valentine’s Day Gifts for Him.
1. Tickets to his favorite sports team or musician
This is fail proof, hence the #1 spot on this list, and I will get into the reasons why. Every guy has a favorite sports team. Does your man partake in any of these activities during the week: pick-up basketball games, softball leagues, or bowling? What about any other sport where he congregates with his buddies to play like it’s game seven of the world championship only to lose because of “bad refereeing”? Then, he drowns his sorrows with a couple of pitchers of booze at the local pizza parlor, only for him to call you for a ride? If this sounds painfully familiar, then this gift is a no-brainer! Splurging on some decent tickets to his favorite team will show him you share his passion for the team and sport. His loyalty to you (and your coolness) will only grow!
If you go the route of purchasing tickets to his favorite musician then get nice seats (as close to the stage as possible) or choose a smaller more intimate venue. This will allow him to have an experience that is not just about listening to his favorite jams but actually seeing the artists and the production as a whole.
2. Wrist Watch
The most classic piece of men’s jewelry: the timepiece. There are so many manufacturers and types of watches out there, so this can seem like a daunting task to pick the perfect one. The gold standard is obviously the Rolex but not all of us have the moneybags to drop serious dough on a Rolex, even if it is a more simple/cheaper model like the Datejust. If you do then a Rolex is a great option but I would choose the Breitling Navitimer. Here are some other options if you have the bankroll:
- Rolex Datejust
- Breitling Navitimer
- Breitling Montbrillant
- IWC Portugieser
A Breitling watch shows a guy has nice taste but also shows he’s unique and doesn’t need the same Rolex everyone else in his office has. If you do not have the budget for the high-end watches then that is perfectly fine. Remember that men love watches and it is their only form of jewelry they can get away with on a daily basis.
Some really nice middle-of-the-road watches would be:
- Tissot Chronograph
- Movado Swiss Chronograph Bold
- Torneau TNY Series 44 Automatic
- TAG Heuer Swiss Formula 1
- Apple Watch
The Apple Watch is great for the techies and he will no longer be able to miss your texts and calls. Some other cheaper options that are still name brand would be:
- Nixon Sentry SS
- Nixon Anthem Chrono
- Fossil Chronograph
- Fossil The Minimalist
- MVMT Camo
The bottomline is that you cannot go wrong with a nice watch and who knows – he might start a watch collection – in which case he can no longer give you any grief for all those heels you have been collecting in the closet.
Ray-Bans are arguably the most iconic sunglasses of all time. Whether your guy is the classic Wayfarer type or the smooth talking Aviator wearing gentleman or the Round Evolve wearing hipster style, there’s a pair of Ray-Bans for us all. The gift of Ray-Bans says, “I know you have great style honey, but here is a little something extra to give you the edge you’ve been looking for”.
4. The Tech Gift
Here are some ideas for the techie boyfriend or husband:
- Wireless Beats Headphones
- Amazon Alexa
- GoPro Hero5
- Bose Soundlink Revolve Bluetooth Speaker
- Fitbit Fitness Tracker
- Crosley Record Player
- Amazon Echo Spot
We all love gadgets and it should be fairly easy to figure out which gadget your guy would love just based on his daily habits.
5. A Night at the Comedy Club
Look, girls are not the only ones who like to laugh. Most comedy clubs these days have a steady flow of well-known comedians (Bob Saget, Whitney Cummings, David Spade, Joe Rogan, Pauly Shore, Pablo Francisco, etc.) and they usually serve some decent food and cocktails. When is the last time your man didn’t like to eat, drink and laugh? Case closed.
6. A Trip out of Town
This gift obviously is not for everyone as it takes a good amount of thought, planning and money but the reward can be tremendous. This is a great option for those who have been in a relationship for a couple of years and want to do something different from the typical yearly gift exchange. This gift shows that your number one goal is spending quality time with him. The trip does not need to be extravagant or long. A simple one-night stay in a place just an hour or two from home will do the trick (if you are in Southern California think of places like Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, LA, San Diego, etc.). Since you are picking up the accommodations, you do not need to stress on the activities. Remember this gift is all about the romance.
7. The Libation Gift
Men like to drink. A lot. Booze is their lifeblood and yes, we don’t like their dad bods and beer bellies but why fight something you can’t defeat? “If you can’t beat them, join them” should be the motto for this gift. The Beer of the Month is a great monthly gift for the beer aficionado. This will get them a unique seasonal beer selection to try out. The same can be done for the winos out there. If your man likes the strong stuff then you can always buy him a nice bottle of scotch to enjoy with his friends. It will also make him look like he has fine taste and can afford to splurge on the top shelf products at the local BevMo. My recommendations would be Glenlivet 18 Year for something smooth or Ardbeg Uigeadail if he likes the smokey varietal. If you feel this gift is not enough and lacking thought you can always add some custom tumblers, flask, a beer mug, decanter, etc. with his initials or favorite motto engraved.
8. The Accessory Gift
The accessory gift is one every girl should get excited for because you get to shop, and what girl doesn’t like to do a little online shopping during her work day? Think about what your man could use almost on a daily basis. A couple good examples of gifts I have purchased over the years would be:
- Tiffany’s cuff links
- Leather jacket
- Designer belt (nothing too flashy)
- Yeti coffee cup or Swell water bottle
- Neck or bow tie
9. The Intellectual Gift
Every man wants to look smarter than he really is, so why not help him out? Ironically, this one takes some thinking on your part but really try to think about his hobbies and interests. For example, if he likes art, buy him one of his favorite pieces for the home or office. Books are never a bad choice for the literate man and they do not always have to be self-improvement books or romantic comedies. If you want to play it safe then books about wall street/investing, politics, history or real estate typically play well with the older men who are a little farther in their careers. If your man is a little younger and more playful then any literature on different types of alcohol or anything related to his interests (his career, golf, travel, his favorite sports team or player, etc.) will be well received. Be careful when selecting your intellectual gift, though. You don’t want him to feel like you are trying to make him smarter or that because you bought him a book he needs to improve himself as a more well-rounded individual. To counter this feel free to pair this gift with another one I have already mentioned.
10. The Dinner Date Gift
This one is easy ladies and you’ve probably done this many times before on your monthly date nights. For this gift take it a step further – try cooking his favorite meal yourself and be sure to make him notice! Leading up to the meal be sure to ask him what he would like exactly, even down to the smallest details, so it ends up perfect. Whatever you end up cooking, be sure to pair it with his favorite drink. Wear something sexy while you cook and for the meal itself. You don’t want him drooling over just the steak. Serve him his favorite dessert and let him decide how to end the night.
I wish I could take credit for this post, but it would have been completely different without going directly to my boyfriend, Blake. Guys know what guys like, right? I hope this post helps you with your Valentine’s Day gift giving. At the end of the day, the most important thing to do is to make your man feel special and appreciated. I hope you all have a beautiful Valentine’s Day with your loved ones.
